Blame The Victim

In a report posted on FoxNews.com, defense attorneys in the Yeardly Love murder trial are asking for copies of her medical records to prove she died from prescription drug complications, not blunt force trauma that was allegedly inflicted by their client, George Huguley.  This is a big case in Charlottesville, VA, home to the University of Virginia.  Both young people were players on their respective UVA lacrosse teams, and were former boyfriend/girlfriend.  It is alleged that Huguley smashed in Love's door and grabbed her and shook her, then slammed her head against the wall several times.  She was found the next day in a pool of blood, her face disfigured.

The defense claimed that the autopsy report indicated that Love had Adderall in her system.  For the uninformed, Adderall is a drug used to tread ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).  They claim that Love died from cardiac arrhythmia due to a reaction to the drug, not the savage beating she endured at the hands of their client.  The coroner is standing by his findings, stating that the amount of Adderall would not have caused Love's death.

To me, this is just more of the "blame the victim" mentality that is going around.  Too often, accused criminals want to "plead temporary insanity," or "deminished capacity.'  In my opinion, Huguley has sunk to a new low.  This play by his attorneys is a shameless attempt to imply that Love was abusing her Adderall.

Shame on you, Mr. Huguley!
